Housing
The housing situation of the municipality has improved in comparison with the situation 10 years ago.
Population growth in the municipality shows dramatic increase during the past 10 years and very noticeable in barangays Barra, Igpit, and Malanang. The indicative growth in the three barangays is caused by the establishments of socialized housing projects. From the current 12,343 housing units, 4,949 or 40 percent have concrete dwellings and 4,916 or 39 percent semi-concrete. This implies that only 21% or 2,478 households have light and makeshift housing units and 574 households with makeshift housing are living in the moderate to high susceptibility to flooding, sea level rise, and storm surge.
Today, the municipality of Opol has 6 existing subdivisions containing 7,470 lots/housing units.
As of to date, there are on-going social and technical preparations for the proposed relocations sites in Opol to cater those occupying along the river banks and seaside which are directly susceptible to flooding and sea level rise. Households along the riverbanks and seaside of Barra, Igpit , Taboc, and Luyongbonbon need to be relocated. These household are moderately and highly susceptible to flooding and sea level rise. Among these informal settlers, those in Barangay Igpit and Luyong Bonbon are the most vulnerable since adaptive capacities of these households varies from low to very low considering that livelihood depends largely on fishing.
