Historical Population Growth

Based on the 2010 National Statistics Office (NSO) Census on Population, the total population of Opol is 52,108. This is 6.40% of the total provincial population of 813,856 in the same censal year. The average annual population growth rate of the municipality from 2000-2010 is 3.65%. This is higher than the growth rates of both the provincial and the regional levels which is 2.21 and 2.14%, respectively.

 

Population by Barangay

All the 8 urban and the 6 rural barangays registered positive increase in population within during the past 10 years. The presence of quasi- commercial-agro-industrial/establishments in Patag and Igpit contributed to population increase which recorded an increase of 59% and 52%, respectively while Barangay Malanang showed the third highest population increase of 44% largely due to the establishment of the largest socialized housing project of the National Housing Authority, the Pag-ibig Citihomes Subdivision.

 

Population by Age Group

Of the household population in 2010, 33.9% were under 15 years of age or 17,669. Children below 5 years old comprised 11.3% of the household population in the entire municipality. Children aged 5 to 9 years accounted for 11.6% of the household population, and those aged 10 to 14 years, another 10.9%. By comparison, in 2000, children under 15 years old accounted for 42.9% of the household population in the municipality. Children below 5 years of aged comprised 16.0% of the total household population.

In terms of the distribution by age and sex, there were more males than females in age groups 0 to 54 years in 2010, with the males comprising 52.37% of these age groups. Similarly, there were more males than females in the older age group 55 years old and over. The males in these age groups made up 52.37%.

In 2010, children under 15 years old had a sex ratio of 109 males for every 100 females, while for those aged 15 to 64 years; the ratio was 110 males per 100 females. The sex ratio for the age group 65 years old and over was 110 males per 100 females, depicting the higher mortality of males than females in this age group.

 

Labor Force

Labor force or the economically-active population refers to population eighteen years old and above who are currently working or actively seeking for work.

 

Population Density

The municipality’s population density in 2010 (NSO Actual) is 297 persons residing in every square kilometer of land, which is 0.57% of the total population of 52,108. This represents an increase of 89 persons from 208 persons per square kilometer in 2000. It is expected that the population will double in 10 years or in 2022.

The average population density of the Municipality is 3 persons per hectare. The populated barangay is Luyong Bonbon with a population density of 106 persons per hectare. It is followed by Barra and Poblacion. Barangay Limonda has the sparsely populated of about 0.45 persons per hectare.
